Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo have been the most recognizable hot dog eaters in recent years. They both have the odds in their favor this year as they have dominated the contest together for the past four years.
Chestnut’s odds to win the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest are at -900 with the Over/Under for the winner being 71 ½ hot dogs eaten with -140 odds of going over. Chestnut has eaten 70 or more hotdogs for the past four competitions. In 2019 he finished the competition having eaten 71 hotdogs.
Sudo’s odds to win are at -550 with the women’s Over/Under for hot dogs eaten being set at 37 ½ with -140 odds to hit the Over as well. Sudo has pulled off the Over 3 times in the last six years. Chestnut won the competition from 2007-2014 and from 2016-2019. In 2015, eater, Matt Stonie defeated Chestnut with a score of 62-60 ending Chestnut’s 8-year run.
On the Women’s side, Miki Sudo has won a total of 6 straight hot dog eating contests with her personal best being 41. Before Sudo, Sonya Thomas had won the contest 3 straight times and she holds the record with 45 eaten hotdogs amongst women.
Since the inaugural women’s contest began in 2011, only Thomas and Sudo have been victorious amongst the other female competitors.

The world watched Kobayashi’s first win in 2001 as he downed 50 hot dogs and buns, destroying the old record of 25.5.
2011 saw the inauguration of Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest for Women. Previously, men and women had competed against each other with the exception of an all-women Memorial Day competition in 1975. Sonya Thomas became the first winner of this competition, putting away 40 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes and walking away with a prize of $10,000.

Chestnut’s initial win at the 92nd Annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in 2007 was against six-time defending champion Takeru Kobayashi. Chestnut ate 66 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes, a new world record.

In her first win, she unseated Sonya Thomas, who had been the previous winner since the inception of the women’s competition in 2011.
Much like Joey Chestnut, Sudo is the winner of many eating competitions including the U.S. National Buffalo Wing Competition, World Kimchi Competition, and Chicago’s RIBMANIA.
She is ranked 5th in the world with the Major Eating League and holds the women’s world record in eating kimchi, ice cream, and, obviously, hot dogs. Her record is quite impressive and would take considerable time to discuss in detail.

Likewise, Miki Sudo has an impressive record in the Nathan’s Contest. She is the seven-time champion from 2014 to 2020. She defeated Sonya Thomas in 2014 who had been the three-time winner of the women’s division since 2011.

My personal prediction is that Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo will successfully retain their respective mustard-yellow and pink belts at this year’s contest.
It would be a huge feat to overcome the incumbent champions, but I suppose it’s not impossible. Who knows?
Maybe Matt Stonie could make a comeback this year against Chestnut and win by the skin of his teeth. Maybe Sonya Thomas could somehow ascend back to the heights of her three-year champion reign and score a victory over Sudo.
At the end of the day, it is highly unlikely; it’s simply wishful thinking. I personally see Chestnut and Sudo absolutely destroying the competition this year.
However, I would strongly recommend with confidence to bet on our incumbent champions to place first in their respective divisions at this year’s Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.
